Frequently Asked Questions
1. What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you.
2. Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage will take place in your own home or in Geoffrey Lloyd Foulkes Clinic in Ilford. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort. Indian Head Massage, however, takes place sitting in a chair and could take place anywhere from your office, your home, a cafe or in the open air, at a school fete for example.
3. What do I wear during the massage?
For a full body massage, you can undress completely or leave your underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a towel at all times except the area being worked on. Indian Head massage do not require you to undress.
4. Is a massage always appropriate?
No. Certain conditions contraindicate massage completely especially conditions of circulatory system, for instance:
- Advanced atherosclerosis
- Aneurysm
- Any heart condition
- Hemolytic anemia
- Hemophilia
- High blood pressure that requires medication
- Thrombosis
- Septic arthritis
Apart from that you cannot receive a massage while you have fiver, infection, diarrhea or you are under influence of alcohol or drugs. With many other conditions is appropriate to have a massage but always seek medical advice.
5. How will I feel after the therapy treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. However some people can go through healing crisis which means they will feel worse for couple of hours before they start to feel better.
